Road Runners is one unit that goes throughout the year. We try to have the students go outside at least once during the week to run, jog, or walk. We do this to increase the cardiovascular (heart) and respiratory (lungs) functions of the students. If Road Runners has to be cancelled due to weather, the missed day(s) will be made up the following day or week.
For 3rd and 4th Grade we have the students do four laps (1 mile) in twenty minutes. The children may walk, jog, run, or do a combination in order to complete this task. The younger students (2nd, 1st, and Kindergarten) are in training and start out with fewer laps and build up throughout the year.
3rd and 4th Graders are able to earn certificates, t-shirts, and trophies for their efforts and achievements in Road Runners.
